Childfree Legend Breakdown
Iris Apfel (née Barrel) was born in 1921. She is an American businesswoman and interior designer. She signed on to become a model with IMG in 2019 at age 97!
She married Carl Apfel in 1948 and 2 years later n 1950, they launched a textile firm named Old World Weavers. They ran it together until they retired in 1992. But she wasn’t done yet!
In 2005, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City premiered an exhibition about Iris Apfel’s style entitled Rara Avis (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel.
In 2012, Iris became a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Dept of Textiles and Apparel.
In 2016, she partnered with WiseWear on a line of Smart Jewellery. In the same year, she was awarded the Women’s Entrepreneurship DayPioneer Award by the United Nations for her work in and contribution to the fashion field.
In 2018, Mattel created a Barbie doll in Apfel’s image making her the oldest person to be immortalized in a Barbie.

Regarding being childfree, Iris said in an interview with The Guardian:-
“I don’t believe in a child having a nanny, so it wasn’t what we were going to do, but also having children is like protocol. You’re expected to. And I don’t like to be pigeonholed.”
